Former President Fidel Valdez Ramos extended his sympathy to the family and relatives of Former President Lee Teng-Hui of Taiwan who passed away last July 30, 2020.
Lee Teng-Hui became the president of Taiwan from the year 1988 to 2000 that is almost simultaneous to the tenure of President Ramos from 1992 until 1998.
Through a personal letter, Ramos extended his condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased president.
“May you receive consolation from the fact that the late President Lee- a dear friend to us freedom-loving Filipinos-not only lived a full and meaningful life, but also did his substantial share in the service of the Almighty, his country and people," the letter said
The letter was sent to the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) Representative Michael Peiyung Hsu through Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) Director Ranjit Ramos Shahani.

In one of his statements, MECO Director Shahani, a former Vice governor and Congressman of the Province of Pangasinan and a nephew of former President Ramos, he emphasized "a special and close relationship" between Ramos and Lee during and after their tenure as presidents.
Lee visited the Philippines and personally accompanied Ramos on a "vacation tour" around Subic Bay in 1994 together with his delegates of senior officials in foreign and economic affairs and businessmen from Taiwan.
The government of China was not happy about the meeting of Lee and Ramos and accused the Philippines of sabotaging the one-China policy. China's government sent a diplomatic protest against the Philippines' government but was defended by Ramos who stated that his meeting with Lee was a non-political meeting and that everything they talked about was limited to trade and businesses.
Lee was known as the man who originally established the "Go South Investment Policy" in order to stabilize the trade and business relationship of Taiwan to the countries that are part of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
